I know Hotel California (guitar lesson) is one of the most famous songs on this planet, and the album is one of the best sold albums of the last century. But for me the song has a deeper meaning, it has had a huge impact on my life! Without Hotel California, I wouldn’t be where I am today in almost every sense imaginable.
You see, about 24 years ago, I went to a friends place. I had been there many times before, so this was simply another one of those days. I think he was sitting on the living room coach playing the guitar, something I had seen him do many many times before. But for some reason, that day, there was something different. I asked… The question…
“Could you teach me how to play that song?”
His first response was: “I’m not sure, you’d probably be better off starting with something more simple, like “Blowin’ in the wind”. But no, it HAD to be THAT song! So we sat down together and he started explaining the chords to me. B minor, F#, A, etc. After a while I got the hang of it and an interest was born.
That same night we had a bet, I’d pay him $25 if he’d won, and I would get to borrow his guitar for a week if I’d won. Of course I got the guitar for a week and got to practice that very first song to perfection. After that week I bought my own guitar and played for hours and hours each and every day.
If it wasn’t for Hotel California, I might not have picked up a guitar in my life. But there was something in those chords calling me, and now here I am. Hopefully this cover and the guitar lesson can do the same for you as what that day did for me…
